One fine morning, when you tried to start your computer, it briefly displayed a blue screen and then restarted, again briefly displayed a blue screen and then restarted. Hence, your computer goes into a loop of briefly displaying a blue screen and then rebooting.

You might be wondering as to what has happened to your computer system.

The reasons for this weird behavior of your computer system are as follows:

A critical system error, "STOP error", causes the computer system to stop.

The Automatic Reboot option under System Properties -> Startup/Shutdown -> Recovery, is enabled

There is insufficient free space to write the error dump file on the system’s hard disk

In order to rectify the blue screen error, you need to modify an entry in the computer’s registry. However, if you modify the registry incorrectly, some serious problems may crop up.

Thus, to be on the safer side, you must take up a proper backup of the registry before modifying it. Taking a proper backup would help you in restoring the registry, in case any problem occurs.

In order to make changes to the Registry, follow the below mentioned steps:

1.Install Windows operating system to a different folder.

2.From the new installation of Windows, execute the Regedt32.exe, and then go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.

3.On the Registry menu, click Load Hive, and then open the System file in the original Windows installation location which is as follows: %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\System.

4.When you receive a prompt for a key name in the Load Hive window, enter an arbitrary name. This will load the original HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive as a subkey of the current key.

5.Change the AutoReboot value from 1 to 0 (zero) in the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CrashControl

6.Collapse the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subkey and unload the hive.

Following the above mentioned steps will disable the Automatic Reboot option in the original Windows installation.

You may need to perform another workaround if the minimum file size of the paging file is set to a value less than the amount of physical memory.

In order to modify the PagingFiles value in the Systems file, follow the below mentioned steps:

1.Follow steps 1 to 4 from the preceding workaround.

2.Modify the value of PagingFiles to allow a minimum value of the amount of physical memory plus 1 MB, but not greater than the amount of free space on the hard disk. The key name is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

3.Check whether the CrashDumpEnabled value is set to 1

4.Collapse the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subkey and then unload the hive.

5.Start the original installation of Windows and the STOP error message must appear. The dump data is stored in the paging file.

6.Reboot the computer and select the parallel installation of Windows. This enables the dump file to be created and you might be able to use the information for resolving the problem that causes the STOP error message in the original installation.

NOTE: The dump file is being saved in the %SystemRoot%\Memory.dmp file, where %SystemRoot% is the parallel installation system folder.

Following the two workarounds, you can rectify the blue screen and rebooting issue of the Windows. However, while trying to fix the blue screen error, if any data is lost or corrupted, you can recover that using a professional third party download data recovery tool like Kernel for Windows Data Recovery. You can also download data recovery tool’s trial version to get a fair idea about its functionality.
